Week One (day 7 | day 8)

This week we are continuing to building our toolbox for student learning Using Technology. Our focus is on Digital Storytelling with the focus on Information Literacy and the Technology Standards.

 

Day 7: Agenda

Tonight we will focus on managing the digital storytelling and using the resources.

Checking In Activity:

  • What is going well?  What do people need help with?
  • Review the "Site of the Week"

Warmup Discussion:

Lets Watch a Movie (The Book) or (the Bulb)

Okay now here is the Video in Education Assignment:  Visit the Apple Learning Exchange, use the table of contents to find and watch at least 3 different videos (access). Choose one video example give a description of how it was used, and what you liked about this example.  Describe why you think that these type of activities are so affective in student learning.  Don't miss  "R and R: Grass Born to Be Stepped On"

Learning ToolBox for Digital Storytelling

Digital storytelling creates a rich curriculum and application of information literacy and technology standards.  The emphasis needs to first focus on the literacy skills, and then on the technology.  Hardware and software are the tools to apply literacy skills and standards.  Great storytellers understand and have mastered the science of these skills and the standards to improve their art of digital storytelling.

  • Creating Groups of Four
  • Looking at the American Library Association http://www.ala.org who created
Planning
  • "Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning" and the ISTE Technology Standard for Students
  • Pitch (Word Version):  What is the overall idea of this production, what story are you trying to tell and how are you going to do it. This is an overview of your production. Please fill this out for your Team and email to me by Saturday of this week...don't be Late Dr. Hayden will need these for assessment.
  • Storyboard or Plan:  Very detailed description of each segment of the video.  I have found that PowerPoint is a great tool for this
  • Audio Files
    • Podsafe Music This is a site to promote up and coming artists, they want you to use their music, these songs carry the creative commons copyright
    • Freeplay Music: Copyright free music for presentations and videos

Followup Assignment (post all assignments in the Assigments area of WebCT):

  • Post your reflection on how you feel digital storytelling can impact learning.
  • Review one or more of the tutorials below to be prepared for Thursday.

Tonight we will focus on managing the Learning using Graphic Organizers & Charts. As well as how looking at Copyright Issue and Web 2.0 software Review.
